Care Tips for Car Upholstery

When your vehicle’s upholstery becomes stained, do you have any idea how to clean it? The following ten tips are going to assist you in cleaning pretty much any stain out of your vehicle’s interior.

The car’s upholstery is likely to take more wear and tear than you know: pets, kids, spilled drinks, and soiled shoes quickly can turn your vehicle’s interior to a mess. Follow these ten upholstery cleaning tricks to maintain the appearance of your car’s interior.

Immediately deal with spilled beverages

It is not always easy to do, particularly if you are traveling on the freeway or in heavy traffic. The faster you clean spills up like cola, juice or coffee, however, the less likely they are to stain your carpet or seat fabric.

Dilute the spill at first with cold water. Never use warm water, as it may set the stain. Next, blot all excess liquid up using a paper towel or clean rag.

Use a glass cleaner for challenging stains

Some challenging stains can sometimes be broken up using a glass cleaner. Before you use the glass cleaner to remove the stain, however, test the agent in an inconspicuous space. This is to ensure that the cleaning product will not stain the carpet or fabric itself. Leave it for a few minutes to see what happens. If all is well, saturate the stained area using the glass cleaner, allow it to sit for 5 minutes, and then blot to clean.

Attack all ink stains using hairspray

If you happen to get ink on the vehicle’s interior carpet or fabric, spray the material using hairspray. Allow it to sit for a couple of minutes until the stain is absorbed, and wipe it off. Repeat as often as necessary.

Do not allow bloodstains to set

In the unfortunate circumstance that you get blood on your car’s upholstery, don’t clean it with warm water, because this might set the stain. Instead, create a paste using powdered laundry detergent and cold water. Apply it to the stain until it dries. Then vacuum or brush to remove it.

Clean all excess laundry detergent up to avoid more dirt or stains.

Clean vinyl the proper way

Vinyl upholstery, in general, may be cleaned using baking soda and a damp rag. Rinse the mixture off using dish soap and water.

Do not use any mineral- or oil-based cleaners, however, as they may make vinyl stiff.

Give carpeting a deep clean

Here is the key to cleaning interior fabric upholstery and carpet: get deep within the fibers. With a gallon of warm water, mix a cup of vinegar and a little dish soap. With a hard bristle brush, work the liquid into the fibers.

Allow it to sit for around thirty minutes before you rinse with water. Blot it dry using rags.

Thoroughly dry leather

Leather upholstery is very sensitive to water, yet it’s necessary to clean it. How do you achieve a satisfying clean without using too much water? Use a low-pH soap and a damp cloth. Make sure to dry the upholstery thoroughly afterward.

Use ammonia to brighten faded carpet

If your vehicle’s non-wool carpeting has faded, thoroughly vacuum it. Then, utilize a blend of 1/2 cup ammonia and a pint of water to mop the carpet. Don’t use ammonia if your carpet is wool.

With an iron, remove fabric indentations

Heavy items left inside the cargo hold or elsewhere in a car’s interior can sometimes leave indentations. To fix this, cover marks using a damp towel. Then, using an iron on low, iron the towel gently. To avoid damaging carpet fibers, do not use a scorching iron and don’t leave it in one area for too long.

Know when to call the professionals

If you want to save your elbow grease, your time, or your state of mind if the above strategies do not work for you, contact auto detailing professionals. Repeatedly attacking stubborn stains can risk damaging the upholstery. And there’s nothing like a professional touch to get your car looking and feeling like new again.
